Buddhadharma is hiring a Book Reviews Editor – Lions Roar

Buddhadharma: The Practitioner’s Guide is looking for a book reviewer to curate and write the journal’s “Buddhadharma on Books” section, in which about 7 books are reviewed (1300 words total) per quarterly issue. This is a freelance position which can be done remotely and, with the ideal candidate, will in time expand to include coverage of dharma books in additional media, such as our podcast, or the occasional livestream event.

Buddhadharma is a quarterly journal aimed at deepening individuals’ connection to the dharma and fostering meaningful dialogue among traditions and within the Buddhist community. We are published by Lion’s Roar, a socially conscious not-for-profit Buddhist media company committed to offering the views, wisdom, and experiences of a diverse range of Buddhist teachers and practitioners.

We are looking for someone with a deep experience of Buddhist practice as well as a wide knowledge of Buddhist teachings and traditions, and indeed of the world of dharma publishing. An advanced degree in Buddhist studies would be an asset. Even if a candidate is deeply rooted in one tradition, they should have solid knowledge of, appreciation for, and curiosity about other schools and approaches. They should also have a strong grasp of the issues and figures most relevant to Buddhism in the West today and the ability to establish relationships with teachers, scholars, and communities.

The Books Editor will demonstrate strong editing and writing skills, attention to detail, and long-term planning that is keyed at once to our publishing cycle and those of the publishers whose books we review.

To apply, please send a cover letter and resume to [email protected]; include “BD Books Editor” in the subject line.
