This festive and delicious dip is similar to a 7 layer bean dip recipe, with a few changes that turn it into a Patriotic Layered Bean Dip. This is a really fun recipe for a 4th of July celebration making even your food table look festive!
When you are throwing a party or celebration for a larger group, something that is always popular and feeds a lot of people is a layered bean dip. Plus you can pack in the veggies! We specifically chose the layers of this dip because we wanted it to look like an American flag, but if you want your dip to resemble something different, there are so many options.
Begin by spreading refried beans as your first layer. We love beans as our base because they provide protein, fiber, and lots of B vitamins. The amount you use, will depend on the size of crowd you are feeding. I used 2 cans of refried beans for this recipe, and it made a 12×18″ tray.
Next is guacamole. The recipe we love to use is from my meal plans. You will need about 1 1/2 – 2 cups depending on how thick you like your guacamole.
This next layer is the creamy taco flavored yogurt layer. You technically don’t have to add the cream cheese and can just do all yogurt or sour cream, but I like the richness the cream cheese adds.
Sprinkle cheese on the entire thing. To create the American Flag, use mozzarella cheese.
Then the fun part is creating the flag! In the corner add rows olives sliced in half to resemble the stars. Then take grape or cherry tomatoes and place in rows to look like stripes. For a quick way to slice tomatoes in half, check out our fast kitchen tips post.
A great thing about this dip, is that it can be made the day before your party, leaving you time to do other things the day of. Serve with blue corn chips for a great addition to your 4th of July celebrations!
On a tray or serving dish that is approximately 12″x18″, spread refried beans as your first layer.
In a medium bowl, whisk together Greek yogurt, cream cheese and taco seasoning.
Continue to spread each layer ingredient in this order: guacamole, yogurt spread, and mozzarella cheese.
Place the olives in the left hand corner to represent stars. Slice cherry tomatoes in half and layer them in rows to look like flag stripes.
Serve with blue corn tortilla chips. Enjoy!
