The Lion’s Roar Foundation is seeking a full-time editor with strong editorial skills and in-depth knowledge of Buddhist practice, philosophy, and history to write Buddhadharma’s next chapter and lead the evolution of our offerings for committed Buddhist practitioners. The editor will be responsible for print and digital content serving the needs of knowledgeable Buddhists of all traditions.
Lion’s Roar is a non-profit media organization that produces Buddhist content across a variety of platforms to meet the needs of a wide range of audiences. We are looking for someone who shares our commitment to deep practice and study of the dharma as an important foundation of Buddhism in the twenty-first century, and to the development of sanghas and organizations that embody the best of Buddhist and human values. For those who share this mission with us, this position offers a unique opportunity to play an important role in contributing to the development of Buddhism in the world today.
Candidates should have a deep understanding of Buddhist practice as well as wide knowledge of Buddhist philosophy, traditions, and history. While candidates may be deeply rooted in one tradition, they should also have solid knowledge of, appreciation for, and curiosity about other Buddhist schools, communities, and organizations. They should have a strong grasp of the issues and challenges most relevant to Buddhists today, and the ability to establish relationships with teachers, scholars, and organizations across the Buddhist spectrum.
The editor will be responsible for gathering, editing, and framing in-depth Buddhist content for both print and digital platforms. Editorial functions may include: story development, working with authors, copy-editing, headline writing, interviewing, original writing, and working in partnership with designers to select visual content. They will have the expertise to supervise the creation of content that will meet the high standards of a knowledgeable readership.
The editor will work in partnership with other Lion’s Roar Foundation editors under the direction of the editor-in-chief. This is a full-time position and may be done remotely or from our offices in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Remuneration will be commensurate with experience.
