Chögyam Trungpa Digital Library at Naropa University launches with…

The full library catalog, which will be released over time, includes more than 1,500 public teachings given by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche from 1969 to 1986.

The new Chogyam Trungpa Digital Library at Naropa University is offering an online archive of recorded teachings by the late Tibetan Buddhist teacher Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in both audio, video, and transcript formats. On April 4, the library released a new batch of content to mark the 36th anniversary of the passing of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, including a seminar, a community talk, and a radio interview.

The new library is an output of the Chögyam Trungpa Institute based at Naropa University, the first Buddhist-inspired university in North America founded by Chögyam Trungpa in 1974. As their website reads, the library’s goal is to “make the recorded legacy of Chögyam Trungpa available to the world for research, study, and reflection.” Each recording in the library is presented with searchable, verbatim transcripts and captions, allowing users to further explore the teachings by filtering for specific categories and words.

The Chögyam Trungpa Digital Library launched in January with a catalog of over 170 teachings recorded between 1974 and 1985. The full library catalog, which will be released over time, includes more than 1,500 public teachings given by Chögyam Trungpa from 1969 to 1986 that “document how Chögyam Trungpa introduced and planted the living Buddhist tradition and practice of meditation in North America.” Users are invited to preview the full catalog

The library can be searched by year, theme, and series. Screenshot via the Chögyam Trungpa Digital Library.

The library’s launch came as the result of “decades of work to record, organize, digitize, and make available the dharma teachings of Chögyam Trungpa,” including an in-depth transcription and editing process of the recording teachings, outlined on the library website.

The library can be filtered by collection title, theme, format, location, year, event type, and publication. Some of the 15 themes include “Spirituality in America,” “Psychology and Psychotherapy,” and “Buddhist Vajrayana and Tantra.” Detailed search instructions are posted to the library website. A number of playlists are also offered by the library.

The team behind the Chögyam Trungpa Digital Library is seeking help to expand the library, and invites users to make a donation to support their work, sign up for their newsletter, attend an event, and share about the library on social media.
